Print now available!

I've been playing some Skyrim recently, and I think in 12 hours of gameplay I've only done about three or so actual quests.

I realised pretty early on that I wasn't interested in playing the game as intended, so I instead opted to ditch the world map/quick travel system and become some sort of wandering alchemy hobo.

I know it sounds stupid, but I'm really enjoying myself. The world is so vast and beautiful that walking through it is incredibly immersive and calming. Lots of places also remind me of parts of Scotland - I'm basically using it as a rambling simulator.

And somehow my character is still levelling! I really appreciate the game design that I can do nothing but skip around picking flowers and hunting elk and still get gameplay rewards.

Heh heh! When I'm in a weird mood, I just wander around to find something or someone to fight with. I even Fus Rah Dah on a friendly NPC down to a waterfall. His name is Maji the Liar (I may have misspelled his name). He never dies, and I reload my auto save a few times just to blow him away once more or twice.
I really want to finish the main quest and be done with it, but Skyrim has so much for me to explore, fight, and complete other quests.

When I see this masterpiece, it feels like one of the game concepts the developers of Skyrim used to imagine what their own world would look.
You would have added a dragon (like Alduin) in the skies, to make this wonderful art more awesome and beautiful at the same time. But that's just me!
You did a very great job on this! Two thumps way UP!

That's what I'm doing now. >w< The first time I got the game, I completed the main questline then went on to a few others. I only recently started playing again. This time, I'm pretty much just wandering around and doing things at random. I haven't even gone to Bleak Falls Barrow yet.

that drawing is beautiful!  You really captured the cold and feel of Skyrim with it.  If I may ask, I'd like to use it as a drawing within on my character's profile, here's where it'll be located once I finish:…
I'll give full credit of course

Thank you! Also, that sounds absolutely fine as long as the credit's there. Enjoy your RP. :)

absolutely.  I'll be more than happy to.  Thank you so much

Really awesome atmospheric work here! Being an alchemy hobo sounds fabulous. I'm Scottish too, and me complimenting nature does tend to go like "it looks like Skyrim."

Thanks! Hobo alchemy is highly recommended. *Scottish fistbump*

You play just the way I do,

I do a few quest, but I've been playing this game for a year and never finished the main quest or anything close to it, I'm just wondering around.

Beautiful artwork, reflects the wonderful world of Skyrim perfectly <3

Thank you. :) I found it an almost therapeutic way of playing the game, Skyrim seems to be a very calming place if you take the time to really drink it all in.

<3 I'm in love.

I'm pretty much enjoying the landscape as well! I played the whole Main quest and Stormcloak Quest once with my very first character but now I started another one with a new character and I simply let her walk all the ways between the cities, make some little jobs or just train my archery skills in the woods. It's so calming sometimes not to bash something but still enjoy the peaceful landscape :)

Truly one of the most wonderful games I've ever played

Oh and BEAUTIFUL artwork of yours there! :)

I do this too! Lovely work... it evokes a sense of strong winds and quietude.

Thank you! I was playing Skyrim (and painted this) while I was quite ill last year, and I found the whole experience very serene and calming during a really difficult period. I still remember it fondly! Almost more like a place I visited, rather than a game I played. :)

I like your style! are you using brushes only?
aora Featured By Owner Mar 19, 2013  Professional Digital Artist
Thanks! And yes, I'm not sure what else I would use.

I don't know... maybe textures, vectors or something else. I guess there are many ways of drawing digital pictures^^
aora Featured By Owner Mar 21, 2013  Professional Digital Artist
I suppose so! :) I did drop a couple of textures over the whole painting to give it a more natural, worn papery look, but the majority of the work is just plain old brushes.

I think that's how I'D play the game! ^^

This is beautiful! I also really love that you can roam in Skyrim. As soon as I had enough gold I bought a horse and went north. The ice flows are really cool up there :)

Jeez, this is gorgeous! Kinda reminds me of some of my hiking trips, especially the times during the morning mist.

I love this, I did the wandering thing with my vampire file. My friend does it when ever he comes over too o3o
All he does is pick flowers and fish, he is a kahjiit xD

Your not playing the game wrong, you are actually playing the game as it was meant to be! Careful for spriggans though, they will kill you if you aren't strong enough to beat a saber cat.

This. This is just what I was about to say, so: This.

And great picture. You captured the Skyrim travelling atmosphere quite well I'd say.

And I love the vastness of the landscape captured here, with the high cliffs and snowy peaks, it's... perfect. Gorgeous work! I really like the two silhouettes, how you've added just enough detail to show what they are, but little enough to keep the... hm, 'atmosphere' of this work.

Well done! :dummy:
